Sweeping the bride off her feet

One of our favorite flights at Shoreline Aviation involves transporting brides and grooms (or sometimes even the whole wedding party) by seaplane. If you really want to make a fantastic entrance (or exit), a seaplane is the best way to go!

The wedding industry has changed drastically over the last decade with each event becoming more extravagant than the next. Destination weddings have become more popular as many couples are looking for something new and exciting. If you are from the colder climes of New England, you tend to seek the warmer temperatures of the south.

As a wedding planner for the last 12 years, I have seen it all. One of my favorite locations for destination nuptials is Florida. The sunshine state has much to offer with its beautiful beaches and resorts that are just a seaplane ride away.

One of the better known locales for weddings is on the island of Gasparilla, a beautiful seaside community off the west coast of Florida. It boasts one of the most popular resorts in the country, Gasparilla Inn & Club. Established in 1913, the Inn has hosted many high-profile events, weddings, and guests from all over the world. Ceremonies can take place directly on the grounds surrounded by statuesque palm trees or in one of the spacious ballrooms on the property. However, nothing can top hosting your reception in a silk tent on the “Croquet Lawns” overlooking the golf course, ponds, and bayou. The Inn is a paradise adorned with palm printed wallpaper, crisp wicker furniture, and beautifully manicured lawns and landscaping. It is the perfect backdrop for Florida nuptials.

If you are looking for something more on the sandy side, the beaches of Sanibel & Captiva Island are just the spot. Known as a playground for shell collectors, the islands feature over 250 kinds of shells, 25 miles of bike paths, and 15 miles of beautiful beaches. One of my favorite details on the islands are the names of the different homes that line the coast. Whether you are renting “Mermaid’s Abyss” or “Starfish Station” for the weekend, there will be no shortage of breathtaking views. The islands are the perfect setting for your big day as many couples find themselves conducting intimate ceremonies on the beach or even on the property of their beachside rental. If you are looking for a more extravagant affair, the Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa offers a banquet hall that can accommodate larger parties for an evening you will never forget.

Maybe your wedding inspiration will take you to the heart of Naples where you can spend the weekend at The Ritz-Carlton Naples, whose name has become synonymous with luxury lodging. The Ritz-Carlton offers three venues on the property, each with its own unique ambiance: North Beach offers seaside romance with a ceremony in the sand followed, by a reception under the stars; the Tea Garden has a more intimate feel for those looking for something on the simply elegant side; and the ever-popular Center Court places your ceremony right in the plaza of wondrous stone archways and fountains for a compete royal wedding setting.

These are just of few of my favorite spots to say “I do” and the fun doesn’t stop there. You can plan a romantic honeymoon to a remote island or resort in The Bahamas, or take a trip to The Keys the evening prior to the wedding for a fabulous rehearsal dinner excursion.

Shoreline Aviation’s eight passenger seaplanes can also take you and your guests for day trip adventures throughout Florida or The Bahamas. Our vow is to help you make your wedding celebration one to remember.
